Evelyn Coakley (b. 2004, Arlington, VA) is a painter living in Savannah, GA. Her work is a bright expression of the subconscious mind. The colorful and textured works invite the viewer to practice their imagination. Evelyn has been a part of five exhibitions, including Les Nocturnes (Lacoste, France), Pendulum at Camaleon Gallery (Savannah, GA), and the SCAD Fine Arts Showcase (Savannah, GA). She is currently finishing her B.F.A. in painting with a minor in drawing from the Savannah College of Art and Design, and will graduate in May of 2026.
The imagination is powerful, and can be lost when it is not practiced. My work is a moving kaleidoscope, where your eye cannot stay in one spot. What may have been a mountain turns into a patterned brushstroke that hypnotizes the viewer into letting their guard down and exploring their subconscious psyche. Bright faces in the paintings call out to the viewer, asking them questions and giving them advice. Like interpreting a dream, the viewer can question the world around them and the temperament of their subconscious. These paintings are a place where the mind can play, and imagination can be practiced.
